Q1: Why go on a short-term mission trip?

MAII plans the mission trips to help bring awareness to the needs of disadvantaged communities and enhance our mutual capacity to make a difference in the lives of others. A short-term mission trip will allow you to:
  • Share your time, talents, and resources with those less fortunate.

  • Make a meaningful impact in the lives of needy youths and adults.

  • Experience another culture and build new connections.

  • Grow in understanding and in Christ as you serve others.

Q2: Who can go on an MAII mission trip?

Any adult who is willing to give of themselves and of their time is a candidate to serve with MAII. Minors who are traveling without their family or a chaperoned group must be at least 14 years old. All volunteers under 18 years old must also submit a Notarized Release and Parental Consent Form to travel with MAII.

For the safety of MAII children and volunteers, we reserve the right to perform a background security clearance on any applicant interested in traveling with the organization. All applicant information obtained will be held in strict confidence.

Q3. What type of work will I do?

By joining a short-term mission team, you will have an opportunity to impact people physically and spiritually. Previous volunteers have been involved in various projects including health delivery, child care, education, construction, and relief work among other areas. For most projects, no previous experience is necessary.

Q4. Where will I stay?

MAII currently runs mission programs in the following towns of Northern Haiti: Bas-Limbe, Chouchou Bay, Cap-Haitian, Novion, Port-Margot. Upon arriving in Haiti, an MAII driver will pick-up and take volunteers from the airport to our guesthouse in Port-Margot, located approximately 15 miles from the city of Cap-Haitien.

Living arrangements: Volunteers typically stay at the MAII guesthouse for the duration of their trip. All volunteers should plan on sleeping in a common room on bunk beds with firm mattresses or on thick mats placed on the floor. MAII recommends that each volunteer bring his/her own bed sheets and pillowcases.

Q5. How long is a short-term team trip?

Trips to Haiti are typically one to three weeks long, but the length of a mission trip can vary depending on the interests of a particular group.

Q6. Can I serve as a long-term volunteer with MAII?

Yes. MAII offers long-term volunteering projects ranging from as short as one to twelve months, with the option to apply for a second volunteer commitment period. Long-term volunteers immerse themselves in the communities they serve, build lasting friendships, and gain valuable work experience. Volunteers who wish to stay longer than three weeks must contact MAII in advance for special arrangements.

Q7. How much does a trip cost?

The cost of a mission trip is $800 for a week (5-7 days) and $1,200 for two weeks (8-14 days). These fees are considered donations and generally cover your accommodation, meals, training and orientation, project transportation and materials, and MAII logistics. Fees do NOT include airfare; volunteers are fully responsible for flight bookings.

Fundraising is a great way to raise the money you need to go on a mission, and MAII is happy to provide some of the resources you need for a successful fundraising initiative.

Q8. Are the mission trip fees tax-deductible?

Yes. The full mission trip fee can be deducted as a charitable donation. The fee is considered a donation and goes into our general fund to be used at the discretion of the Ministries of Aides International, Inc.

Q9. Do I need a passport and visa to go to Haiti?

All international travelers must hold a valid passport to enter and exit Haiti. Your passport must be valid for a minimum period of six months from the date of entry into the country. Visas are not required for nationals of the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Israel, Sweden, Switzerland, and all Caricom countries. For more details regarding current entry, departure and customs requirements, please contact the Embassy of the Republic of Haiti or the country’s Ministry of Tourism, or visit their websites. All travelers should bring a photocopy of the first two pages of their passport in their carry-on luggage.
